In defense of the grotesque- Part 1

I love books, I love poetry, I love movies. But A life-long pattern of choices has convinced me that I am drawn to the dark and sinister. I don't know why exactly, but having my eldest be the exact representation of my nature has really opened my eyes to my own character... mostly the bad stuff. I really knew where my tastes lay before she was born, but now I am forced to consider that it's not a product of my upbringing. Maybe I'm just wired that way.

I love werewolf stories, the balrog is one of my favorite characters in LOTR (however teased I feel with the lack of info about it), I like the troll more than all three Billy Goats Gruff put together, and I totally rooted for that little green dude in Cat's Eye to win.

Bear with me, there's a point to all this...

So when I saw this poster for Pan's Labyrinth at the theater, I knew I just had to see it. I realize that I am probably the only Christian on the planet that will say this, but...

I thought it was a piece of total genius. You should all see it, but not with your kids. You will likely be greatly disgusted and offended (I was), but you should see it any way. Then and only then will you be ready for my next post...
